Why We Must Act Now to Save Hair We Share

For more than a decade, Hair We Share has been committed to one promise: Every person experiencing medical hair loss deserves a high‑quality, custom wig — completely free of charge.

We have kept that promise through rising costs, increased demand, and a growing number of hair donations from generous people all over the world. But today, we are facing a challenge unlike anything in our history, and we need to share it with you openly.

This is an urgent moment for our organization, and for the thousands of children and adults who rely on us.

Monetary Donations Are Down 50%

While hair donations continue to pour in, financial donations have dropped by half compared to last year. This gap has created a crisis: we simply cannot afford to turn donated hair into wigs at the pace we once could. Every ponytail we receive costs $150 to process, and it takes 5 to 9 ponytails to create a single high‑quality wig. Even with our volunteer‑driven model and careful cost‑saving measures, the financial burden is significant. Without monetary support, donated hair simply cannot be transformed into a finished wig.

The True Cost of Keeping Our Program Alive

Wig manufacturing is our largest expense — but it is not our only one. Like every nonprofit, we have essential operating costs that allow us to serve families with dignity and consistency. These include communication with recipients, donor support, shipping, storage, and the basic infrastructure required to keep our doors open.

We run as lean as possible. Our team is small, our volunteers are dedicated, and we stretch every dollar. But even with these efforts, the reality is simple: Without a significant increase in financial support, we will not be able to continue operating at the level our community depends on.

These expenses are not extras. They are what make it possible for every donated ponytail to become a finished wig and reach someone who truly needs it.

We Need Help — From Everyone Who Believes in Our Mission

We are calling on:

  • Individuals who have supported us in the past

  • Hair donors who want their donation to make a real impact

  • Corporations looking for meaningful charitable partnerships

  • Influencers who can amplify our message

Your support today will determine how many wigs we can create tomorrow.
